There is no easier way to enhance a room than with crown molding. The cost of materials as well as the cost of ”hanging” the crown molding is less than that of other remodeling projects such as carpeting or painting. You simply get more impact for the time and money spent.
The advantages of polyurethane moldings over traditional wood crown are:
- Light weight and easy to install.
- Pre-mitered corner drops and centers are available for many of the moldings.Corner Drops and Centers
- Large range of sizes. Our plain crown moldings are offered in a huge assortment of sizes. Whether you are decorating a bathroom, bedroom or great-room, you will find a size to fit the proportion of your living space. Our plain crown mouldings range from just less than 3” high to almost 10” high from the ceiling to the bottom of the crown. You will certainly not find this many sizes and profiles at your local lumber yard.
- Many profiles to choose from. We are confident that you will not find a larger selection of profiles than these. Our profiles emulate classic lines and traditional motifs.
- Polyurethane crown moldings are primed and ready to paint.
I have always encouraged my customer to “mix up” the size and types of moldings in their home. Too often people seem to think that there is a rule that every thing has to perfectly match. It is better to work around a theme than to statically use the exact same profiles everywhere. This is true of more than the use of just crown molding. There is only one word for using the same profiles everywhere in your home: Boring!
So, for example, you might use a 3 ½” wide plain molding in a bath or small room and then go for a larger more ornamented crown molding in a larger high ceiling room. Mix it up for visual interest. You’ll be glad you did.
Installation Installation for polyurethane crown molding is like that of wood moldings. There is one difference, however: urethane mouldings should be fastened to the wall and ceiling with a construction adhesive.. A few finish nails should be used to hold the moldings until the adhesive cures. After the glue sets use a putty for the holes and painter’s caulking for joints and where the molding contacts the wall and ceiling. Sand the joints as you would wood moldings
