Why Homeowners Turn to Interior Design & Remodeling Instead of Moving
As families grow, they also grow out of their homes’ functionality. At one time or another, most families consider moving into a new house – perhaps one with larger rooms, more space or more modern conveniences. However, in the end, the majority of homeowners choose to stay put and invest in renovations, remodeling and interior design. Here is why…
Quality of Life - Of course, you have invested more than money in your family home. Over the years, you have probably invested a lot of time and labor adding your own personal touches, decorating and redecorating, and getting the yard just right. The funny thing is that along the way, neighbors became friends and the neighborhood became your community. From attending church to coaching little league baseball, you have a lot invested in your community. Whether you volunteer at the local hospital or actively participate as a lunch monitor at the kids’ school, all of these are part of what makes family life great, and a big part of this greatness stems from the neighborhood in which you live.
Educational Value – Schools and the quality of education in your community is something that you should consider carefully. Not every town or city offers great schools. If your children attend excellent schools, can walk to school and don’t have to be on a school bus for hours each day, count yourself lucky and consider renovations and interior design instead of moving.
Growth and Maturity – We are not talking about the human kind here… If you take a good look around your yard and your neighborhood, you may find that the lush landscape and mature growth is worth staying for. Large green spaces, walking paths and parks are all ‘premiums’, meaning they do not come free with every purchase. Not every neighborhood offers mature landscapes. The same can be said for your own property. With urban sprawl all across the Nation, and building lots at a premium, newer homes do not always offer large lot sizes, with some houses crammed onto tiny 30 foot lots; not exactly ideal for a growing family. If your current lot is family sized, has massive mature trees, a well developed garden and lots of grass, this may be another excellent reason to remodel instead of move.
Custom Renovations to Your Specifications – One of the biggest benefits of remodeling is that you can have anything you want in home layout or interior design, within the confines of your budget of course. You can knock down walls, install hardwood floors, add a second bathroom, extend the kitchen or build a new sunroom. You can have everything that you have always wanted in your home and that is a luxury that generally is hard to find when you are buying someone else’s home.
Family Memories – Your home is a safe refuge to be with your friends and family; to provide shelter from the uncertainty and hectic pace of everyday life. Memories are made in our homes. Christmas mornings, birthdays, baby’s first steps, high school graduations, weddings and everything in between. The notches on the wood crown molding where you marked the growth of your children are an important part of your life. Your home becomes so much more than a building that keeps us warm and dry; our home becomes part of the family. It also offers permanence and stability to those who live in it, and that is something that cannot be replaced.
When all is said and done, and the interior design and/or renovations are done, you will be very happy that you stayed – and so will your family. Just like any other major decision you and your family will make, remodeling instead of moving might well be worth the inconvenience of a little dust, wood and drywall.
