I like homes with soffit corbels. This is definitely not a modern look which frankly is fine with me since modern is not my cup of tea. These kind soffits were a part of our past and still popular among many homeowners. Many of the old soffit corbels were built-up as the corbels pictured above. That is, they were made of bandsawn wooden layers (most interior corbels are hand-carved from solid wood (laminated stock). Polyurethane corbels are available for exterior applications that are a viable alternative to wood because of the rot and weather resistance of polyurethane. The corbels pictured above alternate adding interest (it may be they there was not enough of one kind to complete the job).  The image is from howardhallfarm
