This is a prototype fireplace mantel design created in Sketchup. The unique feature is the double columns on either side of the fireplace opening. As such, it would have to be attached to the brick at the base and mantel shelf.  The bump-out at the center as well as the squares above the double columns make for a nice "field" for carved appliques.
