I am in the wood turning business primarily and as such occasionally receive some interesting project requests. One of the more interesting projects was for stage props for an opera in Chicago. I once created stair newels for a stage prop for a Broadway play. A year or so back a local retailer that specializes in home lighting asked me to reproduce a set of columns for chandeliers. They were turned from poplar with a 3/4" hole drilled through the length of the piece for wiring. The business owner was then going to finish them to replicate an old chandelier and then add the metal arms to hold the fixtures.
