One of the first projects I ever worked on was a turn-of-the-century Victorian home in South Louisiana. The previous owner had carpet installed probably in the early 1960's which, of course, had to go. The home had been moved by the current owner who, more or less, wanted a period restoration and so the carpeting had to come out. Underneath the carpet was the finest heart pine. That was my first exposure to heart pine flooring. Previous to that the only wood flooring I had seen was the standard 2 1/4" face red oak flooring. It was love at first site. In the many years since that experience, I've seen the demand for salvaged heart pine flooring explode in our area. Salvaged heart pine comes mostly from reclaimed beams from old warehouses that have been torn down.
